Hammocks are available in a range of different material options to suit your lifestyle and outdoor living. Each have their own unique benefits that suit different situations or environments.
The majority of hammocks are made of cotton, which is an ideal hammock material - soft to the touch and extremely comfortable. Like all cotton material, care is required to help it last as long as possible. So it is best brought inside overnight and on rainy, damp days.
If you are more inclined to leave your hammock outdoors all summer or want a lightweight travel hammock - HamacTex®/Polypropylene and Parachute silk options are your best bets.
Cotton is perfect for soft comfortable hammocks. Our cotton is pure - non-recycled cotton which is tear-proof, absorbs moisture easily and is very soft to the touch.
Organic cotton is the environmentally friendly choice in cotton. It has all the benefits of regular cotton, along with the added benefits of protecting the people cultivating it and the environment. Grown without using chemical substances or genetically modified seeds. Soft to the skin and perfect for products intended for children, babies and those with sensitive skin.
Maybe you find it a drag bringing your hammock inside regularly, if so, our artificial fibres - HamacTex® and polypropylene are a good solution for you. HamacTex® and polypropylene are UV-resistant and water-repellent yet maintain a similar feel and level of comfort to cotton. The fabrics of choice for those who like to hang and leave their hammock outdoors all summer. More UV resistant and quick drying making for a very practical hammock in New Zealand conditions.
HamacTex naming is slowly being phased out with polypropylene taking its place, which offers the same levels of durability and comfort.
If you are a traveller or tramper and would like to take a hammock with you, parachute silk is your best friend. Parachute silk is made of nylon trilobal, which is extremely light and compacts up very small.
